ENCORE Chamber Music
is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization
is to bring the world’s most exceptional musicians to Cleveland to inspire, educate, and innovate the art of engagement in music.
is to build a premier international summer festival and year-round community residency programs. We seek to contribute to our Cleveland community by bringing music of the highest caliber and by educating the next generation of artist-citizens.
PHILOSOPHY & HISTORY
ENCORE Chamber Music was founded in 2015 by world-renowned violin soloist Jinjoo Cho who believes that the future of classical arts depends on a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach to its pedagogy.
Unique to the region, ENCORE Chamber Music is an international, 6-week, summer chamber music institute and festival that takes place on the idyllic campus of Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills.
In an artistically charged atmosphere, we aim to teach performance and life skills such as communication, working together, mutual trust and respect, and creative problem solving through chamber music. We feel strongly that nurturing these qualities will grow dedicated and conscientious leaders of the world. Our selected young musicians are trained by world-class artists of international standing who are devoted to shaping the next generation of professional performers.
We challenge our young artists to:
- explore the farthest reaches of their intellect and passion
- get a professional level training in artistic leadership and communication
- curate meaningful community music outreach events for new audiences
- gain a deeper understanding of artistic interpretation and expression
- establish a foundation for the lifelong journey of teaching oneself
- learn to appreciate different perspectives
In order to be a relevant artistic organization in the 21st century, ENCORE wishes to expand from a summer music festival into a year-round arts establishment, starting with seasonal community outreach seminars in 2020. These seminars will be used to pioneer the first online community outreach curriculum in the world. By educating musicians worldwide how to engage their own communities, ENCORE will help to bridge gaps between artists and those within their communities who may never have had the opportunity to hear and understand classical music.
